Best known for his phenomenally popular "Bunny vs Monkey" series, Jamie Smart creates worlds filled with zany characters and laugh-out-loud adventures that are simply irresistible.

The Story Behind the Stories

Born on July 21, 1978, Jamie Smart's journey into the vibrant realm of comics began early, fueled by a lifelong passion for drawing and storytelling. He honed his craft studying art for four years at college, though he admits it was mostly an excuse to perfect drawing animals with googly eyes. His unique style, featuring cute characters thrust into absurd and colourful scenarios, is a direct reflection of his playful spirit and a childhood anecdote where a teacher once told him 'bunnies' wasn't a real word – a moment that, thankfully, stuck with him and inspired his most famous creations.

Jamie Smart's career is a testament to his prolific talent and dedication to children's comics. He has contributed to iconic British publications like The Dandy, The Beano, and The Phoenix, where his weekly "Bunny vs Monkey" strip has been a sensation since 2012, leading to multiple bestselling graphic novels. His "Looshkin" and "Flember" series have also delighted readers, with "Flember: The Secret Book" launching in 2019. Jamie's comic "Fish-Head Steve" was notably shortlisted for the Roald Dahl Funny Prize in 2013. His achievements were further recognised in 2024 when he was named Illustrator of the Year at the British Book Awards and won Illustrated Children's Book of the Year for "Bunny vs Monkey: Multiverse Mix-Up".
